Summary

From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen。

Before Stanley Tucci became a household name with The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games, and the perfect Negroni, he grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the table。 He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the recipes and into the stories behind them。

Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about growing up in Westchester, New York, preparing for and filming the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia, falling in love over dinner, and teaming up with his wife to create conversation-starting meals for their children。 Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burnt dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last。

Written with Stanley's signature wry humour and nostalgia, Taste is a heartwarming read that will be irresistible for anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal。

This was a beautiful, gentle read about the joys of cooking and of sharing that with the people you love。 I didn’t find it as incredible as everyone was saying until the final third of the book which was so moving。 I just want to go round to Stanley Tucci’s house for dinner now!

Endearing, uplifting, mouthwatering, and riddled with editorial errors that somehow make it more charming。

Audiobook was a delight。 Couldnt wrap my head around the way Stanley pronounces 'culinary'。 Audiobook was a delight。 Couldnt wrap my head around the way Stanley pronounces 'culinary'。 。。。more

Honestly I get heart eyes whenever I see Stanley Tucci on screen, and his writing is just as endearingly twinkly。

Stanley Tucci could write about anything and I would be enthralled, and this is no exception

He is as charming as you would think he would be。 I thoroughly enjoyed his stories of growing up in a Calabrian family (explained so much of my own!), thoughts on widowhood and his 2 wives, and of course the descriptions of (most) of the food。

Just delicious。 Stanley Tucci has a profound appreciation of food, the act of cooking, and the community they have to offer。 His love of simple home cooking is refreshing and nostalgic。 Tucci’s descriptions of dishes, restaurants, the cooks in his life, and ingredients in a meal are romantic, witty, and just downright tasty to read。 Tucci’s voice is so clear throughout this book — not only because of the personal nature of its contents, but also the elegance and ease of his writing。 BRB gotta go Just delicious。 Stanley Tucci has a profound appreciation of food, the act of cooking, and the community they have to offer。 His love of simple home cooking is refreshing and nostalgic。 Tucci’s descriptions of dishes, restaurants, the cooks in his life, and ingredients in a meal are romantic, witty, and just downright tasty to read。 Tucci’s voice is so clear throughout this book — not only because of the personal nature of its contents, but also the elegance and ease of his writing。 BRB gotta go try out one of the many delicious recipes listed in the book 📝 。。。more

I love Stanley Tucci so wanted to enjoy this more though still found it entertaining。 Some spots of aloofness and odd tone got to me。 Found the ending the most successful section, but definitely flagged many recipes。

Great memoir, loved all the stories, couldn’t stop smiling while reading。 Tucci’s a great story teller。 Will try some of the recipes from the book in a near future。

Not only did I just become a Stanley Tucci mega fan, but I truly fell in love with a book so early in 2023。 The only way to describe this book is that it gives you something to talk about。 If you love cooking, going out to dinner, traveling, sharing a meal with loved ones, and traditions that come with food then this is the book for you。 I loved the references to family tradition and recipes passed on。 It allowed me to reflect on what those recipes in my life are— the ones that give you a taste Not only did I just become a Stanley Tucci mega fan, but I truly fell in love with a book so early in 2023。 The only way to describe this book is that it gives you something to talk about。 If you love cooking, going out to dinner, traveling, sharing a meal with loved ones, and traditions that come with food then this is the book for you。 I loved the references to family tradition and recipes passed on。 It allowed me to reflect on what those recipes in my life are— the ones that give you a taste of home。 This book in all made me want to pour myself a glass of white wine and get into a good conversation over a bowl of pasta。 。。。more

Words cannot express how much I loved reading this book from the very first page to its last。

If you’ve seen anything Stanley Tucci has ever done and loved it, this is a book to listen to, hands down, because he has such presence in the smallest and most unassuming of places。 Such comedic timing。 Such humility。 And when you get to the back half of the book and hear about his triumphs over hardship, you’ll love him that much more for what he’s overcome, with gratitude and gumption。 All without taking himself too seriously。

This book was simply one of the most delightful non fiction reads I’ve experienced in a long time。 I was salivating over the poetic descriptions of foods and drinks from around the world and I am so grateful for the inclusion of the recipe for many of these dishes。 If you have the opportunity, I would suggest the audio as its read by the author, so to hear his intended tone and lovely voice。

Delightful in every way。

Loved this book。 Could hear Stanley Tucci’s dulcet tones as I read this。 Great memoir including his youth, career, health issues and recipes。 Very readable。

I love that Stanley adds recipes of some of his favorites in the book。 I also love that he made me realize how nostalgic and important some foods are to me。 Some foods just remind me of "home" and make me proud of where I come from。 - A I love that Stanley adds recipes of some of his favorites in the book。 I also love that he made me realize how nostalgic and important some foods are to me。 Some foods just remind me of "home" and make me proud of where I come from。 - A 。。。more

I devoured (pun intended) this book If you love Stanley Tucci or if you just love food, or if you love both, you will absolutely adore this book。 Not only do I have so much more admiration for dear Stanley Tucci than I did before this book, but my love for food has grown immensely from reading his obsession with it。 Cannot recommend this biography enough。

I encourage every to listen to this book。 It has both a calming and craving effect。

This was an awesome memoir, and not only because I'm a great admirer of Mr。 Tucci, but because this book was chock full of mouth-watering recipes, beautiful anecdotes about family, love and food, and on top of it all, Stanley Tucci was/is surprisingly funny; who knew? Yes, this is about food, but it's also about the senses and about Tucci's childhood。 The writing reminds me of Ruth Reichl but, as the book progresses, with a lot more swearing。 He has a great sense of humor but could use a little more awareness of current events - he is repeatedly surprised by restaurant closings during/since COVID and states he doesn't know why they're closing。 Ah。。。being closed for months on end? I read this as an audiobook, but could hear his voice as if we were having a conversation over dinner。 I plan on purchasing a printed copy because the recipes and cocktails sound outstanding。

I listened to this as an audiobook on the hellish drive to and from LA, and this made the trek infinitely better。 I was laughing, oohing and aahing, and my stomach was grumbling as I listened to Stanley Tucci’s soothing and quippy voice recount his memories through food。 Immediately after listening, my mom stopped at the grocery store to get ingredients to make Italian food for dinner, so I have to say this memoir was a success and enjoyable from beginning to end :P

This was pleasantly surprising。 Really enjoyed the audiobook, it’s one of those that’s enhanced by the author’s intonation and very distinct and comforting voice。

Highly recommend the audio version so you can hear Stanely Tucci read it。 His descriptions are delightful and his use of alliteration is often humorous。 I might buy a physical copy of the book just for the recipes!
